This is an awesome story even for non baseball fans. Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton has been absolutely on fire this year. His stat line through one month looks like this: .406 batting average, 14 HR, 36 RBI, 25 Runs. Last night he smacked an astounding 4 home runs vs. the Baltimore Orioles, becoming just the 16th player in MLB history to do so.
2 years ago I wrote another post about Josh Hamilton. He is one of the last true role models remaining in professional sports today.
For those unfamiliar with Josh's story who don't feel like reading an entire article or book, I'll summarize briefly. Hamilton was a high school baseball phenom who was drafted in the first pick by the Tampa Bay Rays organization in 1999. Before he could ever make it to the big leagues, his life spiraled downhill into the darkness of drug and alcohol addiction and eventually a debilitating car accident. He was suspended several times by the league before ever playing. From 2000-2004 Hamilton could never get his career in baseball on track due to his drug addiction. Finally, in 2005 he said he experienced an amazing conversion in the night with a visit from God. Since then, Hamilton has cast aside drugs, alcohol, and other risky behaviors and modeled himself as a new man. He finally got into baseball, and has become one of the best players, if not the best, player in baseball today. Hamilton is a forgotten breed in sports. He routinely speaks about his new found faith at children's events, in motivational speeches, and every time he is interviewed. Josh Hamilton is a class act.
