While the rest of those who identify themselves as conservatives willfully and enthusiastically unite behind the Romney-Ryan ticket and the promise and possibility it holds, libertarians continue to harbor pipe dreams about what could have been with Ron Paul and what could be with Gary Johnson.
So be it. As it stands right now, the first step in reducing the size and grasp of the federal government is to remove the current incumbent president, Barack Hussein Obama, who holds views and favors policies so extreme he has been dubbed by many, the most left wing president in the history of the United States. Indeed, Barack Hussein Obama is both a short term and long term threat to fiscal and economic state of this nation and to cross your arms and look the other way in denial is a disservice to this country. So is claiming both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are equal. That in and of itself is the most absurd, obtuse, and revolting claim in the political arena today.
The Romney Ryan ticket presents the best chance for a move in the direction of more limited government. Everyone else seems to agree. Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Allen West, Scott Walker, Nikki Haley, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie and a host of other voices for conservatism and fiscal responsibility have agreed, as has the vast consensus of conservatives in this country. And no, this isn't "falling in line". This is doing the right thing.
The Republican Party is the most effective mechanism we have now in place to combat the progressive onslaught and while they may have duds here and there, I am far from breaking away from them. Even freedom warrior Rand Paul understands and accepts this.
Meanwhile, a few sulking libertarians continue to spout the old worn out and empty lines of "LIBERTY"
Libertarians are like the little kid in the grocery store tugging at his mother's shirt saying he wants her to buy the whole candy aisle for him. And when she says he can only have a small Reeses, he goes into a crying hissy fit.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, while not perfect, offer the best chance to get this country back on the track of fiscal responsibility. People grounded in solid reality will accept and welcome this. People who want to feel noble and just and pat themselves on the back while they watch Barack Obama get a 2nd term will not.
(*By the way, I like and admire Gary Johnson...but he just-----won't-----win.)
