Mr. Root makes some good points, though I disagree that Obama will lose in a landslide. As predicted earlier, I see Romney winning in a very close race.
One of Wayne's more poignant punctuations is his statement: "Not one person who voted for McCain will vote for Obama this time around." Root's entire thesis is centered around the fact that Obama can only go down this time around. His vote totals will be down among blacks, among youths, and among independents for certain.
Take a look at this electoral map from the 2008 election.
Republicans can only gain and Obama can only lose. I can't imagine Iowa, North Carolina, Indiana, Florida, or Ohio going back to the Bush blaming, finger pointing, whining, first-gay-president. Wisconsin, Virginia, New Mexico, Colorado, New Hampshire, and Nevada all have potential to turn red this year as well. And if Romney can punctuate on the Obama administration's killing of the coal mining industry, Pennsylvania could also be put into play.
I think in 2012 we will see an electoral map similar to that of the 2004 presidential election...
President Bush of all people, won these states despite a deteriorating situation in Iraq and a rabidly anti-Bush media tearing him down the entire election season.
Presently the following former Obama states and swing states are all showing Republicans either gaining ground or overtaking Obama...
Colorado- virtual tie---Obama +9 in 2008
Florida- virtual tie---Obama +3 in 2008
Indiana- Romney +9---Obama +1 in 2008
Iowa- virtual tie---Obama +10 in 2008
Michigan- Obama +6---Obama +16 in 2008
Nevada- Obama +6---Obama +12 in 2008
North Carolina- Romney +3---Obama +1 in 2008
Ohio- virtual tie---Obama +5 in 2008
Virginia- Obama +3---Obama +7 in 2008
Wisconsin- Obama +3---Obama +14 in 2008
Take into account the proven nature of biased polling in favor of Democrats and it would be a good bet Romney actually leads in and will carry each of the following dead heat states.
Conclusion: Obama can only go downhill, and is.
We had our fun experimenting with a hip, cool, "historic" president. But the hopey changey buzz has worn off and the disastrous 4 year experiment called the Obama years will drift onto the pages of presidential history.
